Pond Life Gallery

The number of ponds around the world is dramatically declining, despite their crucial role in maintaining our climate. In Alaska’s wild places, ponds and wetlands are still abundant. Wetlands are often seen as a nuisance exploited by mosquitoes. When I gaze across a large expanse of a bog or exploring a small temporary sinkhole filled with water, I see a precious and intricate part of a whole.

I am captivated by the tangled dynamics and complex relationships within a pond ecosystem. In this collection of wood relief carvings, I aim to showcase the beauty I find in its many literal and figurative layers, or the ever-changing flow among its diverse components. No matter whether the scale is extensive or microscopic, I see a fascinating world worth appreciating.
