Meaning of River
Fairbanks, like many places, was founded on a river. The Chena River shaped its geography, fueled its economy, and made human life here possible. Yet, like rivers across the world, it’s now easy to overlook — taken for granted as background, rather than seen as the powerful, life-giving force it is. In this collection of wood relief carvings, I explore the river not only as a natural feature, but as a concept: a symbol of connection, resilience, and change — flowing through every aspect of life, human and wild.
Rivers carry water, life, and time itself. While we may alter them, their flow persists — with or without us.
